TEXAS TOWERS WERE ASSIGNED TO 4604 AIRCRAFT WARNING AND CONTROL  SQUADRON WHICH WAS ULTIMATELY REDESIGNATED 4604 SUPPORT SQUADRON (TEXAS TOWERES).  329 CONSOLIDATED AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE SQUADRON WAS ASSIGNED TO 329  FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR GROUP, STEWART AIR FORCE BASE NY.  601 CONSOLIDATED AIRCRAFT MAINTENACE SQUADRON WAS ACTIVATED AT MCGUIRE AIR FORCE BASE NJ AND  ASSIGNED TO 4621 AIR DEFENSE WING.  27 CRASH RESCUE BOAT FLIGHT WAS INACTIVATED.  58 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON WAS EQUIPPED WITH F-89H AIRCRAFT BY  END OF REPORTING PERIOD.  60 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON, 97 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON AND 46 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON WERE EQUIPPED WITG  F-94C AIRCRAFT.  2 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON, 5 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON, 337 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON, 324 FIGHTER SQUADR0N AND 330  FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON WERE EQUIPED WITH F-86D AIRCRAFT. AUTHORIZATION FOR F-86D AIRCRAFT IN 2 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON HAD BEEN CHANGED TO  F-102A AIRCRAFT.  331 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON, 332 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON AND 539 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON WERE CONVERTING FROM F-86D  AIRCRAFT TO F-86L AIRCRAFT.  98 FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR SQUADRON CONVERTED FROM F-86D AIRCRAFT TO F-89H AIRCRAFT.  STATES THAT LIMITED PREVENTIVE  MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE TIME GRANTED TO AIRCRAFT CONTROL AND WARNING UNITS WAS A SUBJECT WHICH CAUSED CONSIDERABLE CONCERN.  INCLUDES DISCUSSION OF  COMMUNICATIONS PROBLEMS BETWEEN PICKET SHIPS AND AIRCRAFT CONTROL AND WARNING SQUADRONS.  INCLUDES NARRATIVE CHAPTER ON NAVY AIRSHIP AIRBORNE EARLY  WARNING SQUADRON ONE (ZW-1).  PARTICIPATED IN EXERCISE BENCH WARMER.  INCLUDES INFORMATION ON HELICOPTER MAINTENANCE, PERSONNEL ISSUES AND EMERGENCY  PROCEDURES ASSOCIATED WITH TEXAS TOWERS.  4709 AIR DEFENSE WING WAS INACTIVATED AND REPLACED BY 4621 AIR DEFENSE WING (SAGE).  INCLUDES NARRATIVE  SECTIONS ENTITLED SAGE SUPPLY AND MAINTENANCE OF DIRECTION CENTER EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION IN DIRECTION CENTER INSTALLATION OF SAGE  COMMUNICATIONS/ELECTRONIC FACILITIES EXTERNAL TO SAGE.
